The New Republic

POSITION: Designer

Hired as designer by creative director, Dirk Barnett, to join the design team for The New Republic publication. Initially tasked to design the “Cyclorama” section of the magazine, the information graphics feature, of the magazine each issue as well as front of the book stories. Later on, I was also tasked with designing feature stories, commissioning and art directing illustrations. Each issue we were also tasked with conversion from print to digital for iPad editions.

 

NewBay Media, LLC

WORKPLACE TYPE: Publication

DATES: OCT 2014 – NOV 2015, 1 Year 2 Months

POSITION: Associate Art Director

Hired as associate art director I worked under creative director, Stephen Goggi, on the Guitar World and Guitar Aficionado publications. While both are music oriented, Guitar World is a more fun, playful, rock & roll magazine while Guitar Aficionado is a higher-end coffee table type of magazine. Each of the magazines’ features would be split between Stephen and I so we’d be working on 2-3 features each issue along with any front or back of the book sections. Aside from art directing features, We would commission and art direct illustrations as well as typography treatments.

 

Karim Rashid Inc.

WORKPLACE TYPE: Design Studio

DATES: NOV 2015 – DEC 2017, 2 Years 2 Months

POSITION: Designer

Hired as mid-level designer working under Director of Brand Design, Peta Yeap, I was brought on to meet the growing need of identity projects at Karim Rashid Inc studio. In addition to working on identity, the graphic design team would be working on graphic and/or packaging solutions for products and furniture working in tandem with the Industrial design team as well as providing spacial graphics for the interior design team. We’d also work on architectural finishes collections for clients around the world designing wallpaper, tiles, carpets, and rugs.

POSITION: Director of Brand Design

Promoted to Director of Brand Design following the departure of my former superior, Peta Yeap, I took on my former’s responsibilities which included managing the graphic design team, freelancers, and interns. Leading design projects from ideation, concept proposal, to final production. Collaborating with other departments to meet their needs efficiently. Improving in-house resources and materials, making them easier to use and more accessible for fellow designers. Improved internal brand presence, establishing cohesive direction for internal materials, social assets, and newsletters.
